Cr Michael Banasik

Cr Michael Banasik

Profile - Central Ward: Cr Michael Banasik

Last modified: November 6, 2009 - 2:05 PM

I was elected to Council in 1995, held the position of Mayor from September 2008 to September 2009 and previously Mayor from 2004 - 2005

I am currently a Payroll Officer and previously a retail manager with the St Vincent De Paul Society. Prior to that I became well known around the community as owner of Bargo Newsagency, taxi driver, milk vendor and Thirlmere Video Store owner manager.

My enthusiasm for local issues has not waned in the last 14 years. I have lobbied for and been involved in the building of the new Swimming Pool and Indoor Complex at Picton and the BMX and Skate Park in Tahmoor, and I have pushed for further road funding.

I will continue to lobby for the maintenance of our rural lifestyle and protection of the environment, better roads and drainage, footpaths, kerbs and guttering, more sporting facilities, additional funding for the library, arts, aged, youth and child care services.

While in office I am focusing on roads and environment, and on improving community services such as the library and youth services. My overall vision is to retain the heritage and rural lifestyle of the Shire.

I will lobby for better public transport, sewerage for unsewered areas and more aged services for Queen Victoria Home.

I am a Patron of Picton Show Society and Picton Historical Society.  Member of Tahmoor Lions, Thirlmere Chamber of Commerce, Wollondilly Community Links and Buxton Community Association.

I live at Thirlmere enjoy watching my children play in local sporting teams. I also enjoy walking my Basset Hound Woodley, playing golf and canoeing on Thirlmere Lakes.
