Everyone knows that Local Government impacts directly on our community, but do you know what is involved in making our lifestyle well-ordered and healthy? Listed below are just some of the services provided by Council for the maintenance and improvement of our community's standard of living. Emergency Services02 4677 1100 is Council's 24-Hour Emergency Telephone Number. This number provides a 24-Hour emergency service for Shire residents who may need to report road damage from flooding, fallen trees, or other incidents such as dog attacks or environmental and developmental consent breaches. | TOP | General ManagementProvides strong corporate leadership Policy formation and decision making. Administrative Services ensures the smooth running of Council Meetings and Community Forums so that the community is provided with an effective public forum. They also manage and assess Council property assets to yield an economically viable portfolio. | TOP | Customer Services and CommunicationsLook after customer service, complaints management, Council events, corporate publications, media relations, corporate standardisation of documentation, and coordination of Management Committees for Council's facilities. We also have a Mobile Library Service and Home Delivery Service to the housebound or those in hospital. Our collection also includes videos, music CD's, magazines and newspapers. There are also activities for young adults and special events during the school holidays, as well as weekly Children's Story Time activities. The Library also houses a local Local Studies section and a Community information (pamphlets, notice board). Four PC's are located within our CyberRoom with Internet access, word processing and other computer facilities. Software to record land information that enables maps to be produced for purposes such as land use, ownership, roads and planning matters. Storage of archival material relating to Council's business computerised tracking of requests to Council by residents and other members of the public. Provision of support to Council staff in their use of information technology. Information Technology supplies and maintains IT support for Council's administrative role together with supplying specialist IT services to the various professional disciplines utilised by Council. | TOP | Traffic and Forward PlanningRoad closures for fairs, fetes, festivals and special projects Road Safety Initiatives - Wollondilly Community Road Safety Group, requests for changes to traffic signs, lines etc. Management of the Local Traffic Committee, investigation of road improvements, lobby for funding from RTA and Federal Government, Priority Works Program (PWP) from which Council considers projects for funding in each year's Capital Works Program. Community requests for kerbing and guttering, footpath, road works etc are put on the PWP Studies into road/drainage improvements, ie Section 94 Plans to obtain funds from developers. Detail design for road and drainage works, studies and funding applications for special needs such as Stonequarry Creek Floodplain Management, stormwater management plans etc Assesses development applications for engineering requirements etc. The Traffic and Forward Planning Unit provides safe, well-maintained and properly signposted roads within the Shire. They provide a program of priority works as dictated by community needs, infrastructure condition and perceived future requirements. Staff members also liaise with organisers of special events to provide a balance between their needs and those of the rest of the community. | TOP | Operational ResourcesBitumen patching, heavy patching and resealing of sealed roads, roadside verge control, table drain maintenance, culvert cleaning, tree planting and tree removal. Kerb, gutter and footpath repairs, maintenance of bus shelters, car parks, public recreation areas and public toilets, installation of guide posts, linemarking of roads, maintenance of unsealed roads. Bridge maintenance, road restorations, maintenance of sporting fields, maintenance of effluent ponds. Operational Resources is the area that maintains the amenity and viability of public assets within the Shire. | TOP | Infrastructure ServicesPlanning and administration of Council's Assets Construction Program, preparation of Plans of Management for sportsgrounds construction of new facilities, either directly or in conjunction with Section 355 Management Committees. Mowing, topdressing and fertilising of sportsgrounds, construction of new parks, playgrounds and facilities, maintenance of all parks and reserve areas. Provision of pool facilities at Picton and Warragamba, provision of new community buildings, maintenance of Council's operational buildings. Assists with maintenance of community buildings and public halls, public conveniences, maintenance of existing conveniences, particularly attending to vandalism, maintenance, improvements and allocation of plots at Picton, Thirlmere and Bargo cemeteries. Administration of Council's Section 94 Plan (funds from developers). Infrastructure Services plans, administers and directs Council's public asset construction and maintenance program, allocates resources where appropriate and has responsibility for overall management of sporting and recreational venues and community buildings. Council maintains 500 hectares of publicly owned land, which is used for open space and recreation. Included in this are 13 playing fields, 30 netball courts, ten Tennis Clubs, two Swimming Pools and one Golf Course. | TOP | Development ServicesPre-lodgement consultation service for prospective development applications, town planning/development inquiries, assessment of Development Applications, Construction Certificates and Complying Development Certificates/Building certificates. Building inspections, septic tank approvals, Licence to Operate - Septic Tank, places of public entertainment, food premises surveillance, mortuary and undertakers inspections, licensing of caravan parks, air, water and noise complaint investigations. Unauthorised landuse investigations, unauthorised building work investigations, and extractive industries inspections. The staff in Development Services ensures that new developments occurring within the Shire are properly planned and consistent with Council's Planning Policies, that areas that pose a potential risk to human health are properly controlled, and that areas of potential or actual nuisance are adequately controlled. They also ensure that building and construction works are carried out within the Shire in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia, providing safe and durable constructions. | TOP | Environmental ServicesDomestic waste management, effluent removal, street and gutter cleaning, environmental management, environmental enforcement and vegetation management. Environmental Services provides essential waste removal services to the community. The Unit also provides direction for environmental management and a community resource facility for environmental and waste management activities. Further responsibilities include making sure animal control is carried out in accordance with statutes and Council policy, providing facilities for the holding of impounded animals in a safe and humane manner and providing direction for vegetation management and development of the Community Nursery and Resource Facility. | TOP | Corporate and Economic ServicesCorporate planning, economic development (tourism) and strategic land use planning.
