Population – 20,500- sixth largest town in Estonia.

Area-14.6km2.

Location – 160kms/w of Tallinn.

City is situated N/West of Lake Viljandi within the primeval valley.

Called the Cultural Capital of Estonia –international Festivals and Cultural Events.

Earliest records – 1154- Ancient strongholds were built around 5th to 9th Centuries.

A Hanseatic town in the documents of the Hanseatic league in 1346 (Vikings used the river to trade).

Viljandi Strong holds were the main obstructions to conquer the territory of Estonia.Germans, Russians ,Polish and Swedish were involved in battles to take control of the region.

Six Sister City relations – Poorvoo in Finland,Valmeira in Latvia,Ahrensburg in Germany, Harnosand in Sweden and Frostburg in the US.
