What is the role of Building Surveyors at Council?
The role of the Building Surveyor is to survey all buildings to ensure compliance with building legislation. Building Surveyors advise on, assess and enforce laws and standards regarding construction. Aspects considered include the location of the building, its use, the adequacy of the building to withstand hazards such as wind, fire and earthquake, and the checking of the design to ensure that it complies with the laws relating to the safety, health and welfare of the buildings occupants. They inspect projects at regular stages during construction to ensure that the project is constructed in accordance with the plans, specifications, Australian standards and building code of Australia.
