What is Council's forecast population growth?

Council's Management plan assumes approximately 2% growth per annum. Other organisations such as the State Government's Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Natural Resources (DIPNR) and the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Council (WSROC) have produced forecasts based on different sets of assumptions.

Small area forecasts can be unreliable due to the many factors that impact on development rates including:

  • general economic conditions such as interest rates and employment;
  • rezoning and development processes leading to the release of land;
  • the impact of changes in Council's development controls and policies; and
  • changes in household structure and development types which may reduce the numbers of people residing in dwellings. The current Shire wide occupancy rate if 3.01 persons per dwelling (as an average across all occupied dwelling types in the Shire at the 2001 Census).
