FAQs
Whose responsibility is it to have the animal microchipped? It is the responsibility of the person or organisation selling or transferring (ie., giving away) an animal to ensure that it is microchipped before the point of sale or transfer. However, this does not apply to the sale or transfer of animals from recognised breeders to pet shops. This means that animals sold by breeders to pet shops do not have to be microchipped first. Pet shops are entitled to make it a condition of purchase that animals are microchipped prior to sale or transfer to them. If an animal has not been sold or transferred by the age of 12 weeks, it must be microchipped.
