Bins and Safety

Last modified: September 21, 2009 - 4:17 PM

Wollondilly Shire Council would like to remind residents about the correct procedure when putting their bins out for weekly waste collection.

 Make sure your bins do NOT weigh more than 80kg.
 Space your bins at least 50cm apart.
 Do not overfill your bins, make sure the lid is closed.
 Place your bins so that the Wollondilly Shire logo is facing the road.
  Check that there are no cars, trees or obstacles blocking access to your bins.
  If you live in a cul-de-sac, don’t park your car in the turning area on collection day to ensure the truck can turn safely.
 Place your bins out by 6am on your collection day.
 Remove your bins from the kerb on the day they have been serviced.

It is also important to remember general road safety rules and if a bin needs to be taken across a road, perhaps this is best done by an adult. Be aware also that bins can become a traffic hazard if not placed correctly.  All trucks have limited vision, so be mindful that drivers may not always be able to see you, therefore take extra care while the trucks are collecting waste.

“We have recently released the “Waste and Recycling Information Booklet 2009-10”, which every house hold should have received.  If you haven’t received this information booklet, please contact the Waste hotline on 1300 721 531,” said Mayor, Cr Michael Banasik.
