Weeding WollondillyLast modified: September 29, 2009 - 4:14 PM
It’s that time of year again when weeds show their heads, their seed heads that is. So it’s also time to tackle them before they spread. Wollondilly Shire Council has recently employed an Environment Officer - Noxious Weed Management who will coordinate weed management programs that are currently in place that will help to control weeds in the Shire. Weed management programs include:
A property inspection program targeting noxious weeds at the right time to ensure controls are undertaken by landholders prior to weeds seeding and ensuring landholders obligations under the Noxious Weeds Act are complied with. Wollondilly Shire Mayor, Cr Col Mitchell said “Weeds are always a problem in rural areas, they lessen property values, they can effect people’s health and they out compete native vegetation. As a rural property owner myself I know how important it is to keep on top of weeds or they quickly build up and cost a lot more to control once they have a foothold”. “Council is serious about weeds and the programs in place at Wollondilly prove this,” said Cr Mitchell.
